Haitian Steel Drum Art - Brooklyn
Self-taught artists who repurposes steel drums, traditional percussion instruments, by piercing and hammering the metal into scenes, animals, and people. Sometimes the metal is left in its natural state, or overlaid with natural paints.
Lidanes and Jean Deny carry on the tradition of hammered metal sculpture in the artisan village of Noille in Croix-des-Bouquets, Haiti. They are inspired by traditional images of the Haitian countryside, modern and inspirational word art and biblical scenes.
