Self-taught artists who repurposes steel drums, a traditional percussion instrument, by piercing and hammering the metal into scenes, animals, and people. Sometimes the metal is left in its natural state, or overlaid with natural paints.
Lidanes and Jean Deny carry on the tradition of hammered metal sculpture in the artisan village of Noille in Croix-des-Bouquets, Haiti. They are inspired by traditional images of the Haitian countryside, modern and inspirational word art and biblical scenes. This sculpture features an angel with wings outstretched. The metal is curved to make the figure and then lightly painted and glazed. A nativity scene is nestled below the figure.
Figure measures 17.25" tall, about 11" wide, and 3.5" deep.
Item is newly made, and in excellent condition. This is a handmade item and as such is unique with imperfections that occurred during its creation.
